An update to Scottish Legislation has been introduced on the 1st of February 2022. That marks the date that indicates that all homes within Scotland must have an interlinked fire alarm system. The Scottish Government has taken a coherent and safe approach to maximise the safety and wellbeing of Scottish homeowners and residents. Fire alarm installers Viewpark can assist with the installation process of your new alarm system.
The Installation Process – Fire Alarm Installers Viewpark
The new interlinked system is comprised of several alarms placed around multiple areas of the home. First off, there will be a fire alarm placed on the ceiling of the main room of your home. This should be the room you spend most of your day within, which is usually the living room. Another alarm should also be placed on the ceiling of each circulation area of the property. There must be an alarm on each storey. If your home is three storeys, you will need an additional alarm. A heat alarm must also be present in the kitchen.
To put this into perspective, if you live within a two-storey, four-bedroom home, you will require three smoke alarms and one heat alarm. One alarm is placed in your main room, one in your downstairs hallway/landing area, and the other in your upstairs landing area. The criteria differs for all types of households. For example, if your downstairs kitchen and living room are combined, a heat alarm in the conjoined space will be sufficient. Not to worry though, the Titus Fire and Security team will take the alarm placement options onboard, meaning that you do not have to worry!

Carbon Monoxide Detector
If you have a carbon-fuelled appliance within your property, a carbon monoxide detector is necessary. For example, a gas fire or boiler. This gas can be highly dangerous. Especially when consumed in large doses. Did you know that 60 deaths within the UK each year are related to carbon monoxide gas? A number that we believe could be reduced if homeowners appropriately installed a carbon monoxide detector when needed. Do not put yourself and your household at risk. Although this device is not directly connected to the interlinked fire alarm system, it is still as important.
Why has the new law come into place?
This law has strategically come into place following the destruction, injuries, and fatalities that took place in 2017 in North Kensington, London. The Grenfell Tower tragedy is an event that will always imprint our minds as the most tragic residential fire the UK has witnessed since the Second World War. It is believed that we must take extra caution towards residential fires and their significant impacts. Avoiding following these laws will only reduce the safety measures within your property when it comes to fire risks.
