Fire Alarm Installers Dumfries

Fire outbreaks can be detrimental, and the thought of a fire occurring can be a worrying topic for many, especially if one were to break out within their home property. Following the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower in London, the UK was exposed to the damaging effects that fire and smoke can truly have on residents. The fire outbreak on the 24-storey block of flats is known to be the worst UK residential fire since World War Two. As a country, we want to avoid, at all costs, an event as disastrous as this one from happening again. With the help of fire alarm installers Dumfries, you can ensure that your home has maximum safety measures within it.

Fire Alarm Importance – Fire Alarm Installers Dumfries

These small devices situated in our homes are vital in protecting us, and our homes. They are required for all commercial and residential properties and will sound in the emergency of a fire outbreak. It is vital to regularly check these devices, as not all fire alarms are mains-wired. Most fire alarms are sealed battery alarms meaning that they require lithium batteries to operate. These batteries usually need to be replaced every ten years. The devices can also be regularly checked by lighting a match and carefully placing it under the alarm. The sound will indicate how well it is operating.

Interlinked Fire Alarm System

With the help and new regulations set in place by the Scottish Government, homeowners now have even more reassurance. The interlinked fire alarm system requires all residential and commercial property owners to have an interlinked system in their buildings. The new rules state that from February 1st, 2022, Scottish residents must comply with these regulations.

The new system will increase security and make individuals within the home aware of fire breakout sooner. How? you ask. Well, when one alarm sounds, they all sound. That means that wherever you happen to be within the home, you are guaranteed to hear the alarm. The layout of the interlinked system is as follows. An alarm must be situated on the ceiling of the main room of your home. For the majority, this will usually be the living room. If you live within a two-storey property, you will also need an alarm within each circulation area/landing. These alarms should be placed on the downstairs hall ceiling and the upstairs hall ceiling. However, if you reside in a home or flat of one level, you will only need one alarm in the circulation area.

Finally, a heat alarm will be placed within the kitchen. A carbon monoxide detector must also be present in any room that features a carbon-fuelled appliance. This will usually come in the form of a sealed battery alarm and is not connected to the other fire alarms.
