Fire Alarm Installers Falkirk – Interlinked Fire Alarm System

From February 1st, 2022, the Scottish Government has implemented new rules and regulations. Every property across Scotland must now have an interlinked fire alarm system. Luckily, some newer build homes, usually those built after 2010, already meet the new requirement rules. However, if your property’s alarm is not interlinked, you must follow through with a new alarm system installation process.

It is always best to get a professional to install your new system. You can choose from two types of interlinked alarm systems. These include mains-wired alarm systems or sealed battery alarms. It is important to consider the features of each type of alarm before carrying out the installation process.

Alarm Placement

As part of the new interlinked system, your property will require at least two fire alarms and a heat alarm. One alarm should be placed in the main room of your property. For example, the living room. The other alarms should be placed in circulation areas. For example, hallways or landings. If you live in a one-storey home or apartment, two alarms should be sufficient. However, if you live in a two-storey house, two alarms will be necessary downstairs, and one in your upstairs hallway. Do not fret, an engineer will be able to select the best position on the ceiling for your alarms.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

If you have a carbon-fuelled appliance within your home, a carbon monoxide detector must be installed. This usually comes in the form of a sealed battery alarm. Be sure to note that the lithium batteries within should be replaced every ten years.

Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer. The gas is scentless and tasteless, and usually harms individuals throughout the night, when they are sleeping and in the same position for a lengthy amount of time. Large doses of carbon monoxide can result in death. Therefore, these detectors are crucial. Do not risk it.

Let’s Keep Falkirk and the Scottish Region Safe

Falkirk features many historical landmarks and buildings including Callendar House, Carronvale House, and Falkirk Trinity Church, alongside historic residential properties. It would be devastating to lose any of these buildings to fire damage. Following the implication of the interlinked system, we would hope that the number of injuries and fatalities resulting from fires is reduced. Follow the new rules and educate others on fire precautions.
